Yappy Hour Photos

Every second Thursday of the month, Barker Street hosts a social event for dogs and their humans called “Yappy Hour.”  The gathering brings together dogs of all breeds in a casual, non-structured setting and raises money for a local or national pet-related charity.
Free dog treats are available as are free people treats for the humans.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for gatherings. Sponsors choose the pet friendly charity which will be the recipient of the funds raised that evening. Contact Barker Street for details.

February 2010 Yappy Hour

February marked the return of Houston Collie Rescue and Mary Courtade to Barker Street. On a cold, wet, wintry night, we were warm inside with Collies and Collie supporters. Sponsored by Jeanne Zeto and Mary, the evening raised $1835 and is now in the record books as the highest grossing Yappy Hour to date. Special thanks go out to Tracy Hopkins of Shannon Fine Jewelry in The Woodlands who donated five pairs of pearl earrings for one of the prizes. Also, Darlene Brandon from Chili’s Restaurant graciously donated the people treats.

Since it’s inception in 2008, Yappy Hour at Barker Street has raised over $12,000 for pet-related charities. So many dogs are grateful for your support.

June 2009 Yappy Hour

The final Yappy Hour before the summer hiatus was coordinated by Kay Bollinger with all proceeds going to Montgomery County Pet Partners. This group’s primary focus is literacy development through Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D®). Certified teams work one-on-one with emerging readers as well as with students who may be identified as ‘at-risk’ to help improve reading skills in a school or library setting.  Other animals with Montgomery County Pet Partners work with individuals at hospitals, assisted living facilities and libraries. The evening raised $500 for the group to help them leave their pawprint on our community.

Prize winners this month were both repeat winners. Jeanne Zeto (accompanied by Ripley and Austin) won the basket of gift certificates and Pat Roche (accompanied by Penny) won the $500 from Woodlands Integrative Medicine.

Yappy Hour takes a break during the months of July and August and will resume in September with the fabulous Debbie Oliver of Miss Daisy's Dog Camp as sponsor with all proceeds going to The Woodlands Dog Park Club.  Enjoy the summer and see you all in September!

April 2009 Yappy Hour

Our April Yappy Hour featured many special guests.  Warren Hanson was on hand to sign copies of his book,
Paw Prints in the Stars. This farewell and journal is a fitting tribute for a beloved pet and a perfect gift for a friend who has recently lost a best friend. If you were unable to make Yappy Hour, signed copies of the book are still available at Barker Street .

Sponsored by Mr. Hanson’s publisher, Tristan Publishing, the event raised $350 for Friends of the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.  Marcia Piotter and her crew brought some special friends from the shelter and two lucky Yappy Hour guests brought home their new best friends.  Cathi Bruhn, an off-site adoption coordinator for the shelter, won the incredible wine and cheese basket.

Next month’s Yappy Hour is May 14 and benefits Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston.  Goldens will be available for rescue.  Mark your calendar today!
